Luminosity Behavioral Health Services

Luminosity Behavioral Health Services, Inc. was founded in June 2011, to provide culturally based high quality comprehensive substance abuse recovery and behavioral health services that meet the unique needs of adults, adolescents, children and families.  Luminosity, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation, is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as a community mental health clinic approved to provide outpatient mental health and substance abuse services.
Luminosity achieved Joint Commission accreditation in April 2013.  The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. For our organization, this is a major step toward maintaining excellence and continually improving the care we provide.

We are one of the few multi-service programs for people of color in the Stoughton - Brockton area, serving primarily African American, Latino, Haitian, and Cape Verdeans, as well as Afro-Caribbean, Brazilian, Caucasians and Asians. By design, our staff reflects the diversity of our clientele. We are African American, Afro Caribbean, Hispanic/Latino, Cape Verdean, Haitian, African, gay and straight. We speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Haitian Creole, French and Arabic. Looking around at our staff and listening to the conversations in our common spaces, our clients see, hear, and ultimately feel the cultural diversity of our office.

We theorize that authentic connection generalizes to greater ease and skill in reaching beyond one’s own culture to connect authentically with others. Authentic connection suggests that clients served by Luminosity are less likely to suffer the disparities in counseling services as reported in the Surgeon General’s report, Mental Health: Culture, Race, Ethnicity--A Supplement to Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General. We speak the same language, literally and metaphorically, as our clients; therefore access is higher at Luminosity. The culturally consonant atmosphere is consumer friendly, and thus increases utilization. The authentic connection enables our staff to provide evidence-based care such that the quality of treatment is improved.
